Following the first panel discussion at the Resile One Heritage Summit, we turned the spotlight to the people who know Johnson Park best — the community.
In this interactive session, participants were invited to share their thoughts on two key questions:
How can we spread the story of Mordecai Johnson and the rich history of Johnson Park?
What changes, improvements, or repairs would you like to see for the park’s future?
The responses were heartfelt and full of vision. Some spoke about adding historical markers and educational programs to teach future generations about the park’s significance. Others suggested practical updates — from structural repairs to creating more welcoming spaces for families, events, and cultural gatherings.
What stood out most was the sense of ownership and pride in Johnson Park’s legacy. The conversation wasn’t just about preservation — it was about progress, connection, and building a stronger community around a place that has given so much to so many.
